The NPA announced that it would not participate in a Christmas truce this year.
For the last three days, the army has been using aircraft and mortars to attack MILF rebels. There is supposed to be a ceasefire with the MILF, but the rebels often loot civilians for food and other supplies and this then escalates to battles with the army or police.
