Soldiers attacked Abu Sayyaf in a fishing village on Basilan and found the three hostages (two Americans and a Filipino). Several Abu Sayyaf were killed, along with two of the hostages (an American man and the Filipino nurse.) The attacks was at night, using night vision devices. Several soldiers were wounded. The Abu Sayyaf had threatened to kill their hostages if the army caught up with them. It is not known if the hostages were killed by Abu Sayyaf or caught in the crossfire.

In the south, the army clashed with MILF, leaving three rebels and two civilians dead.
