The American missionary couple have been held by Abu Sayyaf for a year now. Both are believed to have bad cases of Malaria and the husband is said to be carried about on a stretcher. The government has resisted allowing American troops to actually participate in operations to find Abu Sayyaf (there being a law against that.)
