With army patrols getting closer and closer, the Abu Sayyaf released seven of their hostages on Basilan island. The rebels still hold two Americans and a Filipino. According to the released hostages, the rebels thought they could more easily avoid the army if they had fewer hostages with them. In the south, MILF rebels killed four Christians.
