Gangsters in the Delta oil region released two German and four Nigerian oil workers they had kidnapped. Ransom, in the form of cash and other favors, was paid. The kidnappers, The Iduwini National Movement for Peace and Development (INMPD), was more interested in jobs, as these provide long term benefit, and locals who feel constantly beholden to the gang. More kidnappings are promised. These gangs take advantage of the fact that government corruption has denied local people any benefits from the oil production, and created a lot of popular unrest.
