Some 500 troops and policemen were sent to the northeastern city of Sokoto, to try and stop violence between Sunni and Shia Moslems. A group of Sunni Islamic radicals, inspired by al Qaeda, have used violence to keep Shia from praying in the main Mosque. At least two Shia have been killed, and many more injured. Under pressure from the Islamic terrorists, some 200 Shia have agreed to convert to Sunni religious practices.
