 The government has not yet officially responded to the International Court of Justice decision that the Bakassi Peninsula belongs to Cameroon. Nigerian troops are still in Bakassi and Cameroon soldiers have not tried to move in and take over. Thus there is still a possibility of more fighting over ownership of Bakassi. Meanwhile, local leaders in Bakassi have threatened to declare independence.
