The first of 200 US Special Forces have arrived in Nigeria to train five battalions of the Nigerian Army for peacekeeping duties in Sierra Leone. The US is providing rifles, mortars, machineguns, vehicles, ammunition, and radios. The US is also chipping in a $10 million program to reform the Nigerian Army's command and training systems.--Stephen V Cole
