March 8, 2006: Apparently surprised by some hostile international reaction over the March 4th bombing of a World Food Program (WFP) office in the eastern part of the country, the country's Maoist insurgents have apologized for the attack. According to a message posted by a Maoist commander on an "official" rebel website, the bombs thrown at the U.N. office were intended for a nearby government structure. The Maoists added that it was not the policy of the rebels to attack any UN-run offices, and that the March 4th incident was clearly a mistake. Immediately following the attack, the U.N. announced that it was pulling out of that part of Nepal. This probably prompted the apology, as the WFP is supporting hundreds of thousands of refugees, who will blame the Maoists for the disappearance of their food supply.

March 6, 2006: Several hundred Maoists attacked a town 600 kilometers east of the capital, leaving about a dozen dead. The main objective of the attack appeared to be freeing several Maoists held in the town jail. About a hundred prisoners were freed, including the few Maoists. The rebels fled after a few hours, before army reinforcements could show up.

March 5, 2006: The Maoists and the political parties are trying to unite their forces. This is a tricky business, as the Maoists have guns and a very ruthless attitude, while all the political parties have is the support of a lot of the urban population.

March 4, 2006: Rebel activity is, more and more, hit and run attacks and terrorism against civilians who support the government.

March 1, 2006: A battle 250 kilometers west of the capital left at least 30 dead, most of them rebels. The rebels were caught by army helicopter gunships. Meanwhile, 600 kilometers west of the capital, give rebels died when a bomb they were building went off accidentally.
