The Maoists announced a three month unilateral truce. This makes the rebels look like good guys and gives them a chance to make some kind of deal with the democratic parties that have been sidelined by the king's takeover of the government. However, the Maoists want to replace democracy with a communist dictatorship. But the Maoists and democratic party both want to remove the king. The king took over, in a legally questionable move, because the political parties were ineffective in dealing with the Maoist rebels.
