Senior politicians, and their allies, are fighting investigations by the king's anti-corruption commission, using demonstrations by supporters and and litigation and maneuvers by lawyers. The corruption is real, and the senior officials being investigated refuse to testify, and are trying to depict the process as political. It is, but the king knows that the people are fed up with the widespread corruption, which diverts much of the government funds available for solving the country's problems. The Maoists are willing to form a temporary alliance with the corrupt politicians, although everyone understands that if the Maoists took over, they would seek to kill those same politicians.
