A former prime minister was arrested for refusing to appear before the anti-corruption commission. The king has made cracking down on corruption co-equal with defeating the Maoist rebels. Corruption has been more of a problem for most Nepalese than the Maoists. Indeed, many of the injustices the Maoists are rebelling against have to do with corruption. The corruption is widespread, and the king has taken the unprecedented step of allowing senior officials to be hauled in and prosecuted. However, before he became king, the king was a businessman known for shady, and corrupt practices. The anti-corruption investigations could get interesting.
