In western Nepal, pro and anti-Maoist villagers have been fighting. Over a week of violence has left 31 pro-Maoist and 14 anti-Maoist villagers dead. Over 500 homes were burned and thousands of civilians have fled the area. The Maoists have made themselves increasingly unpopular with their terrorism and confiscations (of food, money and other goods as "revolutionary taxes.") Maoists also terrorize and kill teachers and local government officials. But these people usually have family in the area, and this causes bitter enmities that are turning to violence.
