Since the army was turned loose on the Maoist rebels nine months ago, 3,100 rebels and 163 soldiers have died. Several hundred police have also died. Several rebel training camps have been captured and recovered about 13 percent of the loot and weapons rebels had taken from bank robberies and raids on police stations. The army strategy is to continue going after the rebel camps and infrastructure. Meanwhile, the core problems (political and economic) are still unresolved as the various political parties in parliament argue over how to proceed.
