Rebels attempted to ambush troops 150 kilometers east of the capital. But the army turned the tables and killed at least 18 of the rebels. So far this weekend, at least 35 rebels have been killed. In six years of fighting, the Maoist rebellion has left at least 3,100 dead in a nation of  24 million. The rebellion is led by educated young men convinced that only a strict Maoist form of communism can lead to reform in Nepal. Most Nepalese don't agree.
