President Charles Taylor is in a difficult position. Although he has been assured of refuge in Nigeria (and no extradition for his war crimes indictment), this does not take care of efforts to seize his off-shore assets (money he made from illegal activities in Liberia and Sierra Leone), or the anger of his followers if he tries to skip out and leave them to the wrath of the rebels. This could all be solved it someone kills Taylor, something Taylor himself is acutely aware of. But nothing with prevent a settling of scores between the rebels and Taylor's followers.

About a hundred American troops arrived in Liberia. Three Marine helicopters were seen, as well as a US C-130 transport. These troops are to provide security for the American team checking out facilities in Liberia that could be used by American peacekeepers.
