  Although most of the teenage soldiers have been disarmed, there are some ugly aftereffects. These young men grew up seeing power come from whoever had a gun. Traditional respect for elders was eroded. Now there is a generation of teenagers and young men who, while they don't have guns, do have their fists and access to knives and machetes. The crime rate has gone up and there is a lot more violence within families.
