The Kongra Gel decision to end its ceasefire caused a portion of the organization, calling itself the "Democratic Peace Initiative," has split off in protest. The new organization is nor thought to be very large and there has been no effect noted among the 4,000 or so armed Kongra Gel fighters in northern Iraq.
