Over the last decade, Russia and Kazakhstan were the major suppliers of new weapons to North Korea (which must pay cash, since it has stiffed so many lenders.) During that period, North Korea imported $308 million worth of weapons ($176 million from Kazakhstan, $103 million from Russia and $29 million from China.) The major items received from Kazakhstan include 34 MiG-21 fighters and 24 radar guided anti-aircraft guns Russia supplied radars,  35 SS-N-2b Styx anti-ship missiles and 32 armored personnel carriers.  North Korea also produces, under license, many Russian weapons, particularly shoulder fired anti-aircraft missiles like the SAM 16, of which over a hundred a year are manufactured.
