South Korea has sent the Pentagon 150,000 Korean War Service Medals for award to US servicemen who served in Korea during the Korean War (40 years ago). The medals were first offered in 1951, but it was illegal for US troops to accept foreign medals until 1954. When South Korea offered the medals again in 1996, and it only took the Pentagon four years to figure out how to accept and distribute the awards.--Stephen V Cole
