According to some Ivorian journalists, the New Forces (former rebels) recently conducted a census of their 40,000 armed and unarmed fighters. The town of Bouake and its environs has more than 12,000 armed soldiers under the command of Staff Sergeant Cherif Ousmane (alias "Cheetah"). There are more than 8,000 fighters in the town of Man and over 2,000 in Korhogo (the support base of the New Forces). These figures do not include the country's eastern zone (Bouna and other towns). - Adam Geibel
