The Jewish settlements in northern Gaza, which were secular, have been quickly emptied. The settlements in southern Gaza have religious conservative settlers who vow to resist. Those who stay beyond the 17th lose up to a third of their compensation, and risk arrest and injury. The resistance has, so far, been largely non-violent. Although their has been a lot of talk of settlers fighting police evicting them, apparently few Israelis are interested in actually engaging in "civil war."
