Israeli religious conservatives said they would mass outside the Dome of the Rock (the site of a destroyed Jewish temple) in Jerusalem and invade a site holy to Moslems and Jews. Only about fifty Israeli demonstrators show up, and are greatly outnumbered by the police. Islamic radicals had promised greater violence if the Israeli radicals got into Moslem holy places. Israeli commanders interpreted this as a clever tactic by the Israeli radicals to tie up lots of troops and police with a few of their own people. Then again, it may be true that the number of Israeli radicals that are willing to practice what they preach is quite small.
