The two largest Palestinian radical groups, Hamas and Islamic Jihad, have announced they will suspend attack in the name of Palestinian unity. Yasser Arafat, under pressure from Israel and major world nations, has tried to crack down on Palestinian radicals. These efforts, which resulted in many injuries and a few deaths, prompted Hamas and Islamic Jihad to ease up on their operations. Although the radicals have the support of the majority of the Palestinian people, Arafat still controls the money, and 30,000 armed men, of the Palestinian authority. Arafat used force, and the radicals blinked. But not all of them. Smaller radical groups continue their attacks on Israeli settlers in Palestinian territory. But Israel has also gone forward with heavily armed raids into Palestinian territory to arrest known terrorists.
