Under tremendous pressure from Israel and foreign (European and American) diplomats, Yasser Arafat called for an end to Palestinian terrorist operations and violence against Israeli troops and civilians. Arafat said the current 15 month long Intifada violence was over. The death toll in the Intifada is now 1101 (845 Palestinians and 233 Israelis).
