In the last year, 19 Israeli soldiers have been jailed for refusing to serve against the Palestinian uprising. Hundreds of others have resisted serving without being jailed. The uprising has devastated the Palestinian economy, preventing the 100,000 Palestinians who usually worked in Israel from getting to their jobs. Israel will let 5,000 Palestinians in to help with the olive harvest. Increasingly, non-Moslem workers are being imported from foreign nations to permanently replace the Palestinians. Israel's economy has been hurt, but not nearly as much as the Palestinian.
