The violence continues, with 444 dead so far (364 Palestinians, 66
Israelis, 13 Israeli Arabs and one German.) Thousands have been injured, over 90 percent of the Arabs. International pressure builds on Israel to do something to ease the economic problems within the Palestinian areas. The only major source of money for the Palestinians is now wealthy Arab states. There is also concern that the Palestinian economic problems continues to weaken Yasser Arafat's authority in the Palestinian areas. Several armed groups are gaining popularity among Palestinians and this can be turned into political power, at Arafat's expense.
