Three Palestinian terrorists trying to cross the Lebanese border into Israel were caught by the army. Two of the Palestinians were killed and the third wounded and captured. The Palestinians belonged to the Syrian backed PFLP-GC (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command) and had men from this group had not been seen in the area since Israel withdrew from south Lebanon last Summer. Meanwhile, Palestinian and Israeli negotiators say they have been making progress in working out a peace agreement. Both sides are under a lot of pressure to work out a mutually acceptable deal before the Israeli February 6 elections (which are likely to put a more anti-peace government in power.)
