Israel prepares to pull more troops out of locations on the West Bank in accord with the provisions of the Wye River peace accord with the Palestinians.

July 17; Israeli aircraft attacked a Hezbollah artillery unit that had been attacking Israeli units in south Lebanon. Israel announced it will buy 50 late model F-16 fighter-bombers that will be capable of reaching targets in Iran.

July 16: It was reported that Israeli prime minister pledged to pull Israeli forces out of south Lebanon in a year with or without successful negotiations with Syria and Lebanon. Barak's office later denied the report.
