Iraq: March 20, 2004

Patriotic Front for the Liberation of Iraq (PFLI), a new anti-coalition organization, has announced its formation. What's interesting about the PFLI is that it bases itself on the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), a 1960s era operation that brought together many separate Palestinian organization (not all came willingly) to oppose Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory (the West Bank area captured from Jordan and Gaza, taken from Egypt.) The PFLI appears to be a rallying point for pro Saddam and anti-"Islamic Republic" Iraqis. PFLI believes that Iran and Syria are supporting radical Shias and al Qaeda members who want to establish a religious dictatorship. PFLI basically represents an effort by the Saddam loyalists to get some allies in their battle to dominate the Shia majority.
