The tempo of police actions against the Baath Party are increasing, with more raids and more senior Baath Party officials being arrested. There is some support for the Baath Party operations from Syria (where the only other Baath Party in power operates) and Iran (which is not supporting Baath, but is working with them to defeat the installation of a democracy in Iraq.) Diplomatic pressure on Syria and Iran has hampered some of this support. In both Syria and Iran, there is no agreement at the top on what to do about the situation in Iraq.
The US and Turkey have reached an agreement regarding the deployment of Turkish troops in Iraq. The agreement considers troop contingent size and troop locations. Command structure and liaison with US forces are also part of the pact.
