The PUK and the Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITF --a group representing Iraq's Turkman minority) signed a "peace agreement" that all parties hope will prevent further ethnic conflict. 11 people were killed in and around Kirkuk when fighting broke out between the Kurds and Turkmen. Both sides blamed the other for starting the incident, though one Kurd spokesman said Saddam Hussein supporters had started it, hoping to kick off a civil war. The Turkmen claim the majority Kurds deny them their rights.

U.S. troops continued searching towns north of Baghdad, arresting another 17 suspects and finding hundreds of large caliber (120mm and 155mm) mortar shells, plus assault rifles, false IDs, cameras and other equipment.
