The U.S. plans to reduce the number of troops in Iraq to 30,000 by the end of the year. British and other nations would provide another 30,000 or so troops. Most of the policing in the country would, by then, be done by Iraqis. The U.S. is recruiting thousands of American and foreign policemen to help retrain the Iraqi police.

Poland is sending 1,500 troops to Iraq, and possibly more. The U.S. has agreed to cover most of the expenses for sending these troops.
