The US has invited the leaders of six Iraqi opposition groups to an August 9th meeting in Washington DC. The opposition groups, except for the two Kurdish organizations, have little following back in Iraq (mainly because of lack of contact.) But many educated leaders have fled Iraq in the last thirty years, and these form the bulk of the "Iraqi opposition." A meeting the day before in London ended with no announcement of a united program for a new government. Apparently disputes between the groups prevented any agreement.
