The US announced that it was updating its war plans for operations against Iraq. There is fear that if Iraq is not conquered quickly, it could launch a SCUD or two at Israel. Although Israel and Patriot and Arrow anti-missile systems, and the SCUD might land in Jordan or Palestinian territory, if the missile carried a chemical warhead, the political uproar in Israel might force the Israeli government to retaliate. This would make Saddam a hero among many Moslems, as no Arab state has been able to attack Israel for many decades.
