The UN sanctions are crumbling rapidly. Iraq is now negotiating trade deals with foreign nations. Although the US navy maintains a sea blockade, commercial aircraft are freely entering the nation and land routes are not being blocked. American warplanes hit air defense targets in northern Iraq, in response to Iraqi anti-aircraft fire.
