American and British warplanes hit targets in northern Iraq, in response to Iraqi guns firing on US aircraft over the northern no-fly zone. In Baghdad, eight civilians were injured when six rockets fell in a residential area. Hours earlier there had been a mortar attack in Iran's capital and Iraq insisted there was a connection.
