A lone gunman assassinated a judge in the capital. The judge in question had handled political cases, involving attempts to prosecute members of the secret police for abuse of power. But the most prominent cases involved persecuting journalists for reporting government corruption.

A U.S. government report estimates that Iran will need another ten years of work before it has useable nuclear weapons.
