  Although the government is officially against a US invasion of Iraq, Iranians, including many prominent politicians, are not shy about telling foreigners, including journalists, how much they would like to see an American army removed Saddam Hussein from power. For older Iranians, Saddam is held responsible for the 1980s war that killed several hundred thousand Iranians. For the younger generation, Saddam represents the kind of police state they want no part of.
