The 41 year old son of the late shah (deposed by the religious revolution in 1979) has become enormously popular because of his regular appearances on a satellite cable TV show broadcast from the US. Reza Pahlavi (technically the crown prince of Iran) is not even a memory to the 75 percent of Iranians born after his father was forced out of the country. But he is a personable fellow who urges reform and non-violent resistance. Iran has been a monarchy for most of it's 4,000 year history and old habits die hard. There is no major movement to restore the monarchy in Iran, but there is a desire for leaders untainted by corruption or religious fanaticism.
