A gun battle broke out between Aceh rebels and Indonesian soldiers, outside the provincial capital. There rebels were killed. There have been other skirmishes over the past week, in some cases the army shuts down vital supply roads because of the military activity. There is supposed to be a ceasefire, but not all rebel, or military units are disciplined enough to maintain it. The army and police suffered more damage than the rebels, and on both sides there's a sense that there is an opportunity for the rebels to make some headway in their separatist struggle.
