Indonesia: September 9, 2004

A car bomb went off in front of the Australian embassy, killing nine and wounding over a hundred people. No embassy staff were injured. Jemaah Islamiah was immediately suspected, as the Islamic terrorist group had long been trying to launch another terrorist attack against infidels (non-Moslems) in Indonesia. The last bombing was last January, which killed four people. There was one attack in 2003 and two in 2002. Despite the large number of recruits, Jemaah Islamiah had a hard time getting its terrorist act together. Police pressure has increased and public sympathy for the terrorist group has declined. Today's bombing, which mostly killed and injured Indonesians, will not help the al Qaeda affiliated group much.
