The current attempt to impeach the president because of corruption is a result of the many parties in the legislature desperately trying anything to improve their positions. Moreover, the Golkar party of the former dictator Suharto us still a major factor in parliament. The worst aspect of this is that several parties are trying to drag the military back into politics. Suharto had freely used military officers as government officials. The rampant government corruption thus spread to the military.
