Snow storms in Pakistan, near the Khyber pass, on the Afghan border, have killed 16 soldiers and left 26 still missing. Winter in the area has long been dangerous, including the danger of snow avalanches. Better communications and GPS has helped, but it's still a risk business to patrol the mountain valleys and passes in the Winter. Smugglers and terrorists are still about in the bad weather.
