The United States has cancelled half a billion dollars of Pakistani debt, and agreed to sell advanced weapons and military equipment to Pakistan. The government of Pakistan has put themselves at odds with Pakistani Islamic radicals, resulting in a battle to the death. While many of the advanced weapons would be used to confront India, much of the equipment (communications, transportation, sensors, computers) is meant for counter-terrorism operations.

Pakistani police officials, after interrogating hundreds of captured terrorists, and terrorist sympathizers, and examining captured documents and computers, announced that there were about two dozen trained al Qaeda terrorists operating in Karachi, Pakistan's largest city.  The police has been increasingly successful in identifying and arresting, or killing, Islamic radicals.
