Indian and Pakistani artillery exchanged fire along the Line of Control in Kashmir, leaving five Pakistani civilians dead. The firing does not occur every day, and is apparently often in support of Kashmir rebels trying to cross the border. Pakistani artillery, mortars and machine-guns open up, the Indians respond and the rebels use the distraction to sneak across. But there are many villages near the border, particularly on the Pakistani side, and these are often hit.
Three more bombs went off in southern Pakistan, and all were believed to be the work of a religious terrorist operation.
