HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.) signed a deal with French aircraft engine manufacturers to import advanced engine manufacturing technology. This will enable India to make more complex aircraft engines, and import military grade engines that used to come from the US (but were halted after India's nuclear tests in 1998.) India is upgrading it's military technology manufacturing with technology exchange deals with Russia and France. Some of this technology is for military gear, and India is trying to match China's impressive work in this area.
