In Kashmir, seven died in rebel related violence. Police also arrested a rebel leader, Ashraf Mir, said to be the man behind the rebel suicide bombing campaign.

Pakistan has been successful in breaking up a major Sunni Moslem terror group, Lashkar-i-Jhangvi. The group has been responsible for much of the violence against Pakistani Shias and foreigners in Pakistan. Unlike the terror groups involved in Kashmir, which keep their operations outside of Pakistan, Lashkar-i-Jhangvi was a major menace in Pakistan's major cities, and cooperated with al Qaeda. Elements of Lashkar-i-Jhangvi still survive, and have apparently provided sanctuary for al Qaeda members fleeing Afghanistan.
