Artillery fire along the Line of Control in Kashmir has fallen from about 10,000 shells a day to some 2,000 a day. India also announced that infiltration from Pakistan into Kashmir has almost ceased. But thousands of rebels remain inside Pakistani Kashmir and are openly saying that they will soon resume sending men into Indian Kashmir. 

Pakistani have arrested seven members of the Sunni militant group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi as suspects in the car bombing near the American embassy. The group usually attacks Shiites. During the arrests of the militants, police seized 90 AK-47s and explosives. The Lashkar-e-Jhangvi is suspected of involvement in an earlier bombing that killed 11 French engineers, and the kidnapping and murder of a US reporter.  The Lashkar-e-Jhangvi are not involved with the Islamic militants waging war in Kashmir, but do share al Qaedas attitudes towards non-Moslems (drive them out or kill them.) In Lashkar-e-Jhangvi's case, even major Islamic sects like the Shias are considered the enemy. Most Iranians, half of Iraqis, many Gulf Arabs and ten percent of Afghans are Shias. The Shia's comprise 20 percent of Pakistanis and fight right back at the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. Shias do not usually get along with al Qaeda.
