Several incidents in Kashmir left one policeman, three rebels and three civilians dead. Two of the civilians were thought to have been killed because the rebels suspected them of being informers. The most common cause of civilians getting killed in Kashmir are rebel attempts to drive out non-Moslems, or kill pro-Indian informers. Civilians also get killed and wounded when caught in the middle of gun battles. On the Line of Control, rebels, covered by fire from Pakistani troops, set off two dozen bombs in an attempt to disrupt India's effort to build a fence along the border.
